Removing Tar from Tencel

  • Start by scraping off as much of the tar as you can with an old toothbrush or plastic knife.
  • Put a few drops of a mild liquid detergent onto the tar stain and work it into the fabric with a soft-bristled brush.
  • Dampen a cloth with warm water and gently scrub stain in a circular motion.
  • Rinse the fabric with cool water and dry with a towel.
  • If the stain still won't budge, mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a bowl and dip the cloth in the solution. Gently rub the stain until it starts to disappear.
  • Once stain is gone, rinse with cold water and let dry.

Preventing Tar Stains

  • Always be careful when working with tar, as it can easily transfer to fabrics if you’re not careful.
  • Wear protective clothing such as coveralls or overalls when working with tar.
  • Use a dustpan and brush to sweep up any stray pieces of tar.
