Before attempting to clean tar stain, check the care label on the swimwear to make sure that you can proceed. If fabric is not pre-treated or is delicate, spot cleaning with a gentle solvent may be necessary.
Make a solution of warm water and a mild detergent, and then soak stained area in the solution for about 15 minutes. If you don't have a mild detergent, a few drops of dishwashing liquid should do the trick.
If soaking alone doesn't do trick, apply a mild solvent such as white vinegar or rubbing alcohol to the stained area. You'll need to leave the solvent on the fabric for about ten minutes before attempting to remove tar stain.
Once the tar stain has been removed, rinse the area thoroughly with cold water and then dry the fabric in the sun. If you're not sure that the stain has been completely removed, repeat the steps above until satisfied.
Tar stains on swimwear can be an annoying problem, but with the right approach they can be easily removed. Just remember to check the care label before beginning and take care when applying any solvents.
