tar

Nobody likes dealing with stubborn tar stains on their clothing. Tar is notorious for being a sticky, stubborn stain that can seem almost impossible to remove. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to get rid of those nasty tar stains from your sweaters.

What You'll Need

  • Your stained sweater
  • Mineral spirits or baby oil
  • A damp cloth
  • Dish soap
  • A sponge

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Soak the stained area in mineral spirits or baby oil to loosen the tar.
  2. Using a clean, damp cloth, wipe away any excess oil and tar.
  3. Apply a few drops of dish soap to affected area and work into a lather.
  4. Dampen a sponge and use it to work lather into stained area. Be sure to scrub gently.
  5. Rinse the stained area with warm water. If stain persists, repeat steps 1-4 until it’s gone.
  6. Allow your sweater to air dry.

If the above techniques don’t work, you may have to resort to using a solvent specifically designed for removing tar stains. Be sure to test these chemicals on a hidden area of fabric first, as some solvents can be damaging to delicate materials.

With this easy trick, you’ll be able to remove even the most stubborn tar stains from your sweaters! And if you store stored your sweaters properly, you can avoid tar stains in the future.
