What You Need
- Dish soap
- Soft cloth
- Nail polish remover (non-acetone)
- Plastic bag or towel
Steps to Remove Tar Stain
- Mix a few drops of dish soap with warm water.
- Dampen a soft cloth with the soapy solution.
- Gently rub the stained area of your stocking with the cloth.
- Rinse off remaining soap with clean water.
- Dab the stained area with a few drops of non-acetone nail polish remover.
- Gently rub the stained area with the cloth.
- Rinse off nail polish remover with clean water.
- Allow the stocking to air dry completely.
- If any residue remains, repeat steps 5-9 until the stain is gone.
Tips for Removing Tar from Stockings
- Never use an abrasive cleaner, because it could damage the fabric.
- Before trying any of the cleaning methods listed above, test them on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first.
- To help minimize staining, cover the stockings with a plastic bag or towel when walking through tar.
