Using a blunt knife or a butter knife, scrape at the stain in a gentle manner to remove as much of tar as possible. Be careful not to use too much pressure as this could damage the fabric of the sports bra.
Using a mild spot cleaner (for example one designed for fabric upholstery), spray the stain until it is saturated. Allow the spot cleaner to sit for a few minutes, letting it start to break down the tar.
Rinse spot with warm water using a soft cloth or sponge. Repeat this process until the spot cleaner has been completely removed and stain has been lightened.
If there is still some of tar stain left after using spot cleaner, apply a stain remover such as carbona, oxy-clean, or a similar product directly onto the stain and allow it to sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it out with warm water.
To finish the cleaning process, put the sports bra in your washing machine using a gentle cycle and cold water. Additionally, add a half cup of white vinegar to the water to help break down any remaining tar stains. When finished, hang the sports bra to dry.
