What You'll Need
- Rubbing alcohol
- Dish soap/detergent
- Baking soda
- Toothbrush
- Cotton cloth/towel
Instructions
- Mix equal parts rubbing alcohol and dish soap. Dunk a toothbrush in the mixture and scrub at the tar stain. Rinse with water until the stain is gone.
- If the stain persists, create a paste from baking soda and a few drops of warm water. Use a soft cloth to apply paste onto the stain and let it sit for 5–10 minutes. Gently scrub the paste in a circular motion and rinse with cool water until the stain is gone.
- If any stain residue remains, soak the shirt in a mixture of water and detergent for 10–15 minutes. Gently massage the fabric and rinse with cool water until the stain is gone.
- To prevent further staining, allow the shirt to air dry in a sunny/ventilated area.
Tips
- Always test any cleaning solutions or homemade remedies on the back side of shirt first to make sure colors do not run.
- Do not use hot water as it may set the stain and make it harder to remove.
- For tougher stains, try adding hydrogen peroxide to the baking soda paste.
