Step One: Scrape Away Excess Tar

One of the first things to do when you spot a tar stain on silk faille is to scrape away excess tar with a butter knife. Be careful not to put too much pressure when doing this — it’s important to be gentle in order to avoid damaging the fabric.

Step Two: Spot Treat With Solvent

Once you’ve removed as much of the tar as possible, you’ll need to spot treat the stain with a solvent like rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover. Apply a small amount directly to the stain, being sure to test the solvent on an inconspicuous area of the fabric before use. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before wiping away with a clean cloth. Repeat this step until the stain has been completely removed.

Step Three: Wash with Clean Water

Once the stain is gone, rinse the area with clean, cool water and allow it to air-dry. You may need to repeat this step if the stain is still visible. For an extra cleaning boost, you can also add a small amount of laundry detergent to the water as you rinse the fabric.

Step Four: Repeat As Necessary

If the stain is still visible after the first attempt, then you may need to repeat the above steps until it is completely gone. Be patient and apply each step with care in order to avoid breaking the delicate fibers of the fabric – this will help ensure that your silk faille garment looks as good as new.
