Using Baby Oil

Baby oil is surprisingly effective when it comes to removing tar stains from silk chiffon. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • Lay the stained item flat on a surface.
  • Put some baby oil on a soft cloth.
  • Gently rub the baby oil against the stain in circular motions.
  • Leave the oil on the stained area for a few minutes before blotting it off with a damp cloth.
  • Repeat the process as necessary to remove majority of the stain.
  • Finally, launder the silk chiffon according to the instructions on the garment’s label to remove any remaining residue.

Using Paint Thinner

Paint thinner is also very effective in lifting stubborn tar stains from silk chiffon. However, it should be used with caution because it is a powerful solvent that can damage delicate fabrics.

  • Lay the stained item flat on a surface.
  • Soak a cotton swab in paint thinner.
  • Gently dab the stained area with the cotton swab.
  • Leave the paint thinner on the stained area for a few minutes before blotting it off with a damp cloth.
  • Repeat the process as necessary to remove the majority of the stain.
  • Finally, launder silk chiffon according to instructions on the garment’s label to remove any remaining residue.
