Whether you’ve stepped in a tar stain at the beach or had a car drive over some spilled tar on the road, tar stains can be difficult to remove from the delicate fabric of seersucker. But with the right supplies and a few easy steps, you can have your seersucker looking like new again.

What You’ll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Cotton rag
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Washing powder/liquid

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Blot the excess tar with a dry cotton rag.
  2. Mix one part white vinegar with two parts rubbing alcohol in a bowl.
  3. Dip cotton rag into mixture and use it to blot the stain.
  4. Allow the vinegar/alcohol mixture to sit on the stain for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Rinse the area with cold water.
  6. Wash the fabric with washing powder or liquid as per the instructions on the label.
  7. Dry the fabric as per instructions on the label.
