Tar is a very difficult stain to clean off clothing and fabrics. This versatile oil-based product is often used in construction and other industrial work, making it a common sight in many people's lives. But when tar finds its way onto your beloved scarf, situation can seem dire.
Thankfully, there are a few solutions you can try to help remove tar stains from your scarf without compromising its delicate fabrics. Here’s what to do:
Give the stain a few good smacks with a blunt object like a butter knife or a plastic spoon. This will break up tar and make cleaning easier.
Dab a small amount of all-purpose cleaner onto affected area of the scarf. Scrub gently with a soft cloth until you’ve worked up a lather. Rinse as much cleaner away as you can.
Spray a generous amount of WD-40 onto the stained area. Using a soft cloth, scrub gently to remove as much tar as possible. Rinse area with warm water to remove the WD-40.
Wash the scarf in the washing machine using a mild detergent. Hang the fabric up to dry. If the stain still hasn't vanished after washing, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the tar has gone.
Never do laundry again. Save time for things you ❤️
