Step 1: Pre-treat the Stain

Before you attempt to wash your robe, there are a few methods you should try that can help pre-treat the stain. Create a paste by mixing baking soda with a small amount of water. Apply the paste to the tar stain and gently rub it in using a circular motion. Once the paste has been applied, cover it with a damp cloth or towel and let sit for 20-30 minutes. For a stronger pre-treatment, rub a small amount of vegetable oil onto the stain and let sit for 20-30 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

Step 2: Wash the Robe

Once the pre-treatment has been done, you can start washing your robe. Put the robe into the washing machine with a regular detergent. Make sure to set the washing machine to a gentle cycle, as an overly aggressive cycle may cause further damage to the fabric. After cycle has finished, check the stain closely to ensure that it has been successfully removed.

Step 3: Dry the Robe

The last step is to dry the robe. After the washing cycle, place the robe in dryer and set it to a low temperature. If the stain still persists after the wash and dry, repeat steps 1 and 2 until the stain has been successfully removed.

Tips

  • Always check the care instructions label on your robe before washing it.
  • If the stain does not come out after the first pre-treatment, try a stronger oil-based treatment.
