What You Need
- Dry cleaning solvent or rubbing alcohol
- White vinegar
- Soft cloths
- Laundry detergent
Instructions
- Apply a small amount of dry cleaning solvent or rubbing alcohol directly onto the tar stain.
- Allow the solvent to sit for 15-30 seconds.
- Gently rub tar stain with a soft cloth until tar is dissolved.
- If necessary, apply more dry cleaning solvent or rubbing alcohol and continue to gently rub tar stain until it is completely removed.
- Once the tar is removed, rinse the area with cold water.
- Apply a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water to the affected area.
- Allow the solution to sit for 15-20 minutes.
- With a soft cloth or sponge, gently scrub the area until stain is gone.
- Rinse area with cold water once more.
- Using a mild laundry detergent, wash the robe according to the instructions on the garment’s label.
- Hang the robe up to dry.
Tips
- If you don’t have dry cleaning solvent or rubbing alcohol, you can use WD-40 or mineral spirits instead.
- Be sure to test any cleaning agent you use on a hidden area of the robe first to make sure it won’t damage the fabric.
