Before attempting to clean tar stains from pumps, make sure that you cover the inside with a trash bag. This will protect inside of the shoe while you clean it.
The next step is to place ice cubes inside the shoe. The ice cubes will create an airtight seal that will harden the tar and make it easier to remove. Leave the ice cubes in the shoe overnight.
Mix one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid with two cups of warm water in a bowl. Stir mixture until the soap is completely dissolved.
Soak a paper towel in the soapy water and use it to gently wipe the tar stains off the shoes. Make sure to work slowly and gently to avoid damaging the shoe.
After removing the tar stains, it's time to vacuum out the ice cubes. This will ensure that no water remains in the shoe that could damage it further.
If there are still any stubborn tar stains remaining, use a cotton swab soaked in nail polish remover to gently remove the residue. Then use a toothbrush or scrub brush to remove any dirt or debris that has been left behind.
Once you've finished cleaning the tar stains, let the shoes dry in a well-ventilated area. This will help the shoes retain their shape and prevent further damage.
