Tar stains can be particularly stubborn when it comes to pots and pans. In order to get rid of them, you’ll need to employ the right removal techniques. Here are a few methods you can use to get rid of those pesky tar stains.

Scrape with a Plastic Scraper

The first step you should take is to try and scrape off the tar stain with a plastic scraper. Be sure to use the gentlest scraping technique possible. This will help ensure you do not scratch or damage the pan. After you have scraped as much of the tar off as possible, you can move on to the next step.

Soak with Hot Water and Soap

Fill a sink or bucket with hot water and add some liquid dish soap. Place the pot or pan in water and let it soak for 15-20 minutes. The hot water and soap should soften remaining tar, making it easier to remove. Gently scrub the pot with a sponge or scrub brush, being careful not to scratch the surface.

Use a Baking Soda and White Vinegar Solution

If you are still having trouble removing tar, a baking soda and white vinegar solution may do the trick. Mix together equal parts of baking soda and white vinegar, creating a paste. Rub the paste onto the tar stain using a soft cloth or sponge. Let the paste sit for a few minutes before wiping it off with a damp cloth.

Try a Commercial Tar Remover

If none of the above methods seem to work, you may want to try a commercial tar remover. Many of these products are specifically designed to remove tar from pots and pans. Be sure to read and follow the directions carefully before using a tar remover. This will help to ensure that you get the best results with minimal effort.
