tar

Tar stains on poplin fabrics can be challenging to remove. If you’ve ever had the misfortune of having tar on your favorite clothing, you know how tricky it can be to get rid of it. Fortunately, there are some tried and true methods to help you get the tar out and keep your clothes looking like new.

Step 1: Let the Stain Sit Out in the Open Air

The first thing you’ll want to do is allow tar to sit out in the open air. Tar can be softened by letting it sit in the open air for a few hours. This will make it easier to remove later on.

Step 2: Apply a Mineral Oil or Petroleum Jelly

Once the tar has been out in the open air for a while, apply a small amount of mineral oil or petroleum jelly to the stain. Gently rub the oil or jelly into the stain and allow it to sit for a few minutes. This should help to loosen up the tar and make it easier to remove.

Step 3: Scrape off the Excess Tar

After the oil or jelly has had a chance to work its magic, use a spoon or another hard object to gently scrape off the excess tar. This should help remove most of tar and any stubborn residue should be easier to remove.

Step 4: Wash in Hot Water With Dish Detergent

Once you’ve removed as much tar as possible, it’s time to wash the fabric. Put clothing in washing machine and fill it with hot water. Add a few drops of dish detergent and let the clothing soak for 30 minutes. After that, run the washing machine on a normal cycle. This should help remove any remaining tar and leave your clothing looking like new.
