If you're unfortunate enough to find tar stains on your beautiful Paul Smith piece, start by picking off any excess tar with a dull knife or spoon. Do not scrub the fabric harshly or bleach it as this could cause permanent damage.
Next, mix a solution of warm water and mild laundry detergent in a bowl. Soak a cloth into the mixture and dab the stain gently. Be sure not to rub fabric too vigorously as it could cause the tar stain to spread further. Once all of the stain is soaked, rinse fabric in clean, cold water.
If the tar stain still remains after you try the above method, mix a solution of white vinegar and baking soda in a bowl. Soak a cloth into the mixture and dab the stain gently. The vinegar will help to break down tar and baking soda will help to remove any remaining residue. Again, make sure not to scrub fabric as this could cause the tar stain to spread further. Rinse the fabric in clean, cold water.
If the stain still remains after this, then it might be time to call in a professional dry cleaner. They have specialised tools and detergents that will be able to eliminate even the toughest tar stains. This way, you can ensure that your Paul Smith item will look its best without having to worry about any lasting damage.
