What You'll Need:

  • Sponge
  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Toothbrush
  • Shoe brush (optional)

Method 1: Use Dish Soap and a Sponge

  1. Scrub the stained area using a sponge and a small amount of dish soap
  2. Warm water can be used to help rinse off soap and loosen the tar from the fabric
  3. After doing this several times, scrub area using a toothbrush to get into the tougher spots and remove any remaining residue
  4. When the tar has been removed, pat dry area with a towel and let it air dry

Method 2: Use White Vinegar

  1. Soak the stained area with white vinegar and let it sit for about 10 minutes
  2. Using a scrub brush or shoe brush, scrub the area and rinse with warm water
  3. Repeat the process until all of the tar has been removed
  4. Pat dry the area with a towel and repeat as necessary
  5. Let the area air dry before wearing again
