To successfully remove tar stains from jersey fabrics, you will need the following items:
First, use a stiff-bristle brush to scrape the stained area of your jersey fabric. This will help loosen the tar, making it easier to remove. Keep in mind that this step might not be necessary if the tar stain is still relatively fresh and hasn't had time to fully set.
Once you’ve scraped away as much of the tar as possible, you can apply a citrus-based cleaner such as Goo Gone. You can also substitute this product with a homemade citrus-based solution made from equal parts lemon juice or white vinegar and warm water. Saturate a soft cloth with this mixture and gently rub it into stained area. The citrus-based solution or Goo Gone will help break down the tar for easier removal.
Afterwards, rinse your jersey fabric with cold water to help remove the cleaning solution as well as the loosened tar. If the stain isn't completely gone, repeat Steps 2 and 3.
Once you've finished Steps 2 and 3, you can launder the jersey in the washing machine. Use cold water and a mild dishwashing detergent to help dissolve and remove any remaining tar. If laundering the item isn't an option, you can always spot clean area; just follow Steps 2 and 3.
