What You'll Need:

  • A clean cloth
  • White distilled vinegar
  • Mild laundry soap
  • Fine-grit sandpaper
  • Leather cleaner (optional)

Step 1: Scrape Away the Excess Tar

Use a clean cloth to gently scrape away any excess tar on the surface of the jacquard fabric. Be careful not to spread the stain or damage the fabric fibers.

Step 2: Soak the Stain in Vinegar

Create a vinegar solution by adding one part white distilled vinegar to two parts warm water. Soak the stained area with solution for 30 minutes. This will help to dissolve the tars and loosen the stain. After 30 minutes, blot away the vinegar solution with a clean cloth.

Step 3: Spot Clean with Laundry Soap

Using a clean cloth, apply a few drops of mild laundry soap to the stained area. Gently rub and work the soap into the fabric. Allow the soap to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing away with lukewarm water.

Step 4: Sand Away Residue

If the stain is still visible, use fine-grit sandpaper to gently rub away any remaining residue. Take care to only sand the residue, as this could cause further damage to fabric.

Step 5: Condition the Fabric

If necessary, use a leather cleaner to condition the jacquard fabric and help prevent future stains. Follow the instructions on the product for best results.
