Eliminate Tar Stains in Your Jacket Easily!
Tar stains can be tough to remove from a jacket but with the right techniques and materials, you can make your jacket look like new again. Here's how to easily clean tar stains from jackets.

Materials You'll Need
- Soap
- Warm Water
- Cotton Balls or Swabs
- Nail Polish Remover (with Acetone)
- White Vinegar
- WD-40
Instructions
- Check the tag for washing instructions. If they say to dry-clean only, take it to a professional.
- Apply hand or dish soap to the stain and gently rub it into the tar stain. If necessary, use a brush with soft bristles to work the soap in.
- Rinse the area with warm water. Make sure to rinse all of the soap off.
- If the stain persists, saturate a cotton ball or swab with nail polish remover that contains acetone and dab at the stain. Test the nail polish remover first on an inconspicuous area.
- After the nail polish remover has been applied, rinse the area with warm water then with cold water.
- If the stain is still present, mix one part white vinegar with one part water and apply the mixture to stain. Allow it to sit for several minutes, then rinse with warm water. Repeat as needed.
- If nothing else works, try using WD-40. Apply a small amount to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water. Repeat as needed.
- Once the stain is gone, launder according to the care label instructions.
