Step 1: Scrape Off Any Excess Tar

Using a blunt knife, scrape off any tar that can easily be removed from surface of the item. Take care not to damage the delicate nature of the crochet.

Step 2: Soak the Item in a Mixture of White Vinegar and Water

Create a solution with equal parts white vinegar and water, and soak item for 10-20 minutes. This should loosen up the tar.

Step 3: Gently Scrub Away the Tar

Using a soft brush, gently scrub at stained area until the tar is completely removed.

Step 4: Rinse Off the Solution

Thoroughly rinse off vinegar and water solution before proceeding.

Step 5: Create a Soapy Mixture

In a bowl, mix together two teaspoons of non-bleach detergent and one quart of lukewarm water.

Step 6: Wash the Item

Gently wash the item in the soapy mixture before rinsing off with lukewarm water.

Step 7: Lay Flat to Wring and Dry

Lay item flat on a dry towel and roll to wring out most of the moisture. Leave it laying flat to finish air drying.
