The first step is to scrape away as much of the tar as possible with a dull butter knife. Don't press too hard or you might ruin the fabric. Just lightly scrape until most of excess tar is gone.
Now it's time to apply turpentine to the stained area. Soak a cloth in the turpentine and gently dab the affected area several times. Do not rub or scrub, just lightly dab. You may have to repeat this step several times for stubborn stains.
After you've applied the turpentine, it's time to wash clothes in warm water with a detergent that is suitable for the fabric. Be sure to read and follow care instructions on the label of your Fred Perry clothing item. Once the clothes are washed and dried, inspect the garment for any remaining stains. If necessary, repeat steps two and three.
If the stain still remains, try washing the garment with a stain remover designed for use on synthetic fabrics. Follow the instructions on package before laundering. Once the garment has been washed and dried, inspect for any remaining stains. If necessary, repeat the laundering process with stain remover.
Removing tar stains from Fred Perry clothes doesn't have to be a daunting task. With these four simple steps, you can easily get rid of tar spots and keep your favorite Fred Perry apparel looking great.
