When it comes to keeping your down jacket clean and in good condition, you have a few options. If tar spot is fresh or small and not very deep, you can use a paper towel or a rag to try and remove the spot. Gently blot spot with an absorbent material and it should come right off.

If the tar stain is slightly older and has had chance to sink into the fabric, there are a few more tried-and-true methods for removing it. One way is to rub the spot with cooking oil or baby oil. This will help to break down tar particles, which can then be wiped away with a damp cloth or paper towel. You might have to repeat this process several times.

Another option is to mix up a homemade stain remover using dish soap and baking soda. Simply combine the two ingredients to create a paste and then rub it into the tar spot. After a few minutes, rinse off paste and let it air dry. With either option, you may need to repeat the process several times in order to completely remove the stain.

Finally, if all else fails, you can bring your down jacket to a professional cleaner. They will be able to use special cleaning products and techniques to get rid of the stain and keep your jacket looking its best.
