Supplies

  • Dish soap or a detergent specifically formulated for delicates
  • Stain remover such as OxyClean
  • Soft bristle brush
  • Bowl
  • Microwave safe container
  • Clean cloth

Instructions

1. Pre-treat Stain: Add a drop of dish soap or delicate-safe detergent to the stain and gently work it into the fabric using a soft bristle brush. If the stain is still visible, pre-treat it with an enzyme-based stain remover such as OxyClean. Allow solution to sit on the stain for at least 5 minutes before continuing.

2. Soak in Hot Water: Fill a bowl with hot water and add detergent or the stain remover. Mix ingredients together until they are fully dissolved. Place the stained bra into the mixture and allow it to soak for at least an hour.

3. Rinse Out the Stains: Once bra has soaked for an hour, rinse out the water and any remaining residue from the garment. Continue to do this until all of the soap or stain removal products are removed from the fabric.

4. Clean with Vinegar: In a microwave-safe container, combine one cup of white vinegar and two cups of hot water. Dip the bra into the solution and let it sit for 5 minutes before removing. This will help to break down the tar and remove the stain from the fabric. Rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary.

5. Blot Dry: After the tar-stained areas are fully rinsed, gently press a clean cloth against the fabric to remove excess moisture. Leave the bra out to air dry or use the low setting on a tumble dryer. It’s important to restrict the use of heat with delicate items, so be sure not to exceed the recommended temperature.
