The first step is to remove as much of the tar as possible using a sticky removal tool such as a piece of tape. Position the tape over the tar stain and press down firmly. Lift the tape off, taking the tar with it. Repeat this process until you have removed as much of tar as possible.
Once you have removed as much of the tar as possible, soak the affected area with warm water and laundry detergent. Allow this to sit for at least 15 minutes, then scrub the area lightly with an old toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
If you’re still seeing tar residue, mix equal parts baking soda and white vinegar to make a paste. Apply the paste to the affected areas and let sit for 10 minutes. Scrub gently with an old toothbrush and then rinse off with warm water.
If the tar stain is still visible, saturate a cloth with rubbing alcohol and blot the stained area. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing with warm water. Repeat this step if necessary.
With these four steps, tar stains will soon be a thing of the past. By following these easy steps you can restore the pristine look of your shoes in no time!
