What You'll Need
- Fine-grit sandpaper
- Soft cloths and sponges
- Cleaning detergent
- White vinegar
- Glass cleaner
Instructions
- To begin, lightly rub the stained area with fine-grit sandpaper. This helps to remove any excess tar that may not have been absorbed by the fabric.
- Once the excess tar is removed, dampen a soft cloth with white vinegar and gently scrub the area. The vinegar will help to break down the tar and make it easier to remove.
- Once tar has been broken down, wet a sponge with a cleaning detergent and rub the stain gently. The detergent should help to lift the tar off of the fabric.
- Rinse the area thoroughly with water to remove any residue from the detergent.
- Finally, use a glass cleaner (the kind without ammonia) to help remove any remaining residue. Give the glass cleaner time to work before wiping it off.
Tips and Tricks
- Don't scrub too hard when trying to remove the tar. You don't want to damage the fabric.
- If the stain won't come off with just water and detergent, try using a solvent-based cleaner.
- Be sure to let the dress dry completely before storing it or wearing it.
