tar

Tar stains on baking dishes are pesky to remove. But when it comes to kitchenware, you don’t want to use abrasive agents that would ruin the item. In this case, you have to be careful when trying to get rid of tar. Fortunately, you can easily clean baking dishes covered in tar without damaging them.

Step 1: Removing as Much Tar as You Can

The first step to cleaning tar from baking dishes is to remove as much of it as you can. To do this, use a plastic putty knife. Scoop away all the visible chunks of tar. This is the most labor intensive step in cleaning process.

Step 2: Make a Paste Using Baking Soda

Once you’ve removed all the visible tar from the baking dish, the next step is to make a paste using baking soda and water. Mix together equal parts of baking soda and water until you achieve a thick paste-like consistency. Apply the paste to dish with a clean cloth or sponge and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse the Baking Dish with Water

After letting paste sit for about 15 minutes, it’s time to rinse the baking dish with water. Use a soft sponge and gently scrub the dish to wash off baking soda and any remaining tar residue. Make sure to rinse the baking dish thoroughly with warm water.

Step 4: Dry the Baking Dish

Once you’ve washed the baking dish, it’s important to dry it completely. Use a clean, soft cloth to pat down the baking dish and get rid of any excess moisture. Allow the baking dish to air dry or use a hairdryer to speed up the drying process.
