Tar stains can be difficult to remove but with right technique and materials, you can get your anorak looking as good as new. Here are a few tips on how to easily clean tar stains from your anorak:
- Use cold water. Start by wetting a washcloth or towel with cold water and gently dabbing the stain.
- Apply a cleaner. Use a suitable cleaning product such as rubbing alcohol or a tar remover, depending on the fabric your anorak is made of. Be sure to follow the instructions on the packaging and check whether the product is suitable for the fabric you're working with.
- Scrub the stain. Use a gentle scrub brush or toothbrush to work the cleaner into the fabric, taking care not to damage the fabric.
- Rinse. Rinse area with cold water to remove the cleaner and any residue from the tar.
- Apply a detergent. Apply a mild detergent such as laundry soap, rubbing it in gently with a soft cloth.
- Machine wash. Put your anorak in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with cold water.
- Air dry. Once finished, hang up your anorak to air dry. Do not put it in dryer.
