If your Aeropostale clothes are stained with tar, the first step is to remove as much of the exterior tar residue as possible. Use a knife or spoon to scrape the tar away, then apply a dab of mineral oil or vegetable oil to remaining tar. This will soften it and make it easier to remove. It’s important to avoid using water, rubbing alcohol, or other harsh chemicals that could damage the fabric.
Once you’ve removed as much of the tar as possible, you’ll need to create a spot cleaning solution specifically designed for removing tar stains from fabric. Begin by combining equal parts of white vinegar and water into a clean bowl. Then stir in a teaspoon of dish soap. Dip a cloth or soft-bristled brush into the solution and gently scrub the stained area. Avoid using too much pressure or rubbing the fabric too hard, as this can cause the fibers to weaken and tear.
After you’ve finished scrubbing the stain, rinse the area with cold water to remove any remaining traces of the cleaning solution. If any tar residue remains, repeat the spot cleaning process until the stain is completely gone.
Finally, let area air-dry. Do not use a hairdryer or other heat source, as this can permanently set the stain. Once the area is dry, you can launder the garment as usual.
