Materials and Tools Needed

  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Lemon Juice
  • Mineral Spirit
  • Soft-Bristled Brush
  • Old Toothbrush
  • Clean Towels or Cloth

Step 1: Soaking in Rubbing Alcohol

Start by soaking the stained area of the garment in rubbing alcohol. Allow it to sit for up to an hour. Afterward, rinse with cold water.

Step 2: Apply Lemon Juice

Rub lemon juice onto stain. Then, let this sit for 30 minutes before rinsing off with cold water or adding detergent. This may take a few tries to effectively remove stain.

Step 3: Incorporate Mineral Spirits

If steps 1 and 2 don't work, try mixing some mineral spirits with mild detergent. Gently brush the affected area with a soft-bristled brush. Rinse with cold water and repeat until the stain is removed.

Step 4: Sun-Drying

Finally, when all else fails, allow the item to dry in sunlight. This usually works, as sunlight naturally bleaches fabrics. Once the item has dried, it should look good-as-new!

Conclusion

Cleaning tar stains from activewear need not be a difficult task. With the simple steps outlined above, you can ensure your favorite gear looks great no matter how tough the stains. Ready to give it a go?
