Instructions

Before tackling stain, it's important to first identify what kind of wallpaper you're dealing with. Some wallpapers are more sensitive to cleaning products than others and could be damaged in the process of trying to clean them. If you're not sure what type of wallpaper you have, test an inconspicuous area with the cleaning steps before starting to tackle the stain.

Once you've identified the wallpaper, start by mixing a gallon of hot water with 2 teaspoons of liquid dish soap. Dip a cloth into the soapy solution and gently dab at the stain, making sure not to rub too hard. After repeating this step several times, rinse the area with a clean, damp cloth.

If this step does not completely remove the stain, you will want to create a paste using equal parts baking soda and white vinegar. Apply a thin layer of the paste to the stained area, let it sit for about 10 minutes and then rinse it off with a damp cloth.

If even this step fails to remove the stain, mix one part bleach with four parts of water and apply it to the stained area with a cloth. Let the solution stay on the affected area for about 5 minutes and then rinse it with a clean, damp cloth. As bleach can damage wallpaper, it's important to test this step on an inconspicuous area first.
