What You'll Need

  • Warm Water
  • Mild Detergent with No Bleach
  • White Vinegar
  • Soft Cleaning Cloth

Instructions

  1. Test the stain first by rubbing a dry cloth over stained area. If the velvet is not too delicate, you can use a soft bristle brush to help remove any dried-on residue.
  2. Mix one tablespoon of mild detergent with one cup of warm water and gently dab the solution onto stain.
  3. Use a soft cleaning cloth to dab at the stain to help lift it off fabric.
  4. Once stain is gone, rinse the area with cold water, but do not soak or wring the velvet.
  5. If the stain remains, apply a mixture of one part white vinegar to four parts of warm water. Again, use a soft cloth to dab at the stain, then rinse with cold water.
  6. Use a soft towel or air dry the velvet by keeping it out of direct sunlight.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or bleaching agents which can damage delicate fabrics.
  • Always read the care instructions for your velvet fabric before attempting to clean it.
  • If the stain is still present after following these steps, it may be better to seek professional advice.
