Your first step should be to pre-treat the stain with a spot remover or detergent that is designed to tackle greasy, oily stains. Dab or spray the product directly onto the stain and let it sit for several minutes. Use an old rag or a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub away stain.
If the stain is still visible after pre-treating, the next step is to soak the item in a mixture of laundry detergent and water. Let the garment soak for at least 30 minutes, then rinse with cold water and let it air dry.
If the stain persists, it’s time to wash the garment in the washing machine. Start by checking the care label for manufacturer’s instructions, as some items may need to be hand washed or dry cleaned. If the item can be safely washed in the machine, use a regular liquid detergent and a cold water setting. To further reduce the chances of the stain setting, add bleach to the cycle.
Once the item has finished wash cycle, lay it flat on a towel in direct sunlight to dry. The ultraviolet rays of sun can naturally help lighten any remaining stains. Hang up the item in a well-ventilated area until it’s completely dry.
Cleaning tanning lotion stains from your underwear doesn’t have to be a difficult task. Following these four steps can help make your garments look like new again. Pre-treat the stain, soak the item in detergent, wash it in the washing machine, and then lay it out in sun to dry. You should now have the confidence to remove pesky tanning lotion stains from your undies!
