Sun tan lotion can be difficult to remove once it has dried on fabrics like tights. Regular laundry detergent won't always get the job done, so it's best to use a stronger cleaning solution. The easiest way to get rid of stains is to pretreat them before washing.
If the stain is particularly stubborn and won't come out after the pretreating and laundering process, you may need to use a stronger acidic cleaner. Vinegar is an excellent option that is relatively safe to use on fabrics. All you need to do is mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and apply it to the stained areas. Rinse thoroughly with cold water, then launder in cool water as usual.
Another option is to use a mild bleach solution for colored fabrics. Never use chlorine bleach on darker fabrics because it could cause discoloration. For light-colored tights, mix 1 tablespoon of non-chlorine bleach in 1 quart of cold water. Soak the fabric in the solution for 10-15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and launder as usual.
These simple steps should help you get rid of sun tan lotion stains quickly and easily. Your tights will look as good as new once you're finished!
