Step 1: Start with Soap & Water

Start by dabbing some cold water on affected area of the tie with a clean cloth. Then sprinkle a small amount of liquid dish soap onto the area. Rub the soap into the fabric of the tie in a circular motion. Don’t rub too hard or you might damage the fabric.

Step 2: Try Laundry Detergent

If the dish soap didn’t do the trick, then use a laundry detergent that contains an enzyme cleaner. Apply it to stained area in much the same way you did dish soap, by dabbing and rubbing the detergent in. Let it sit on the fabric for 10 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse & Repeat

Dab fabric with cold water and rinse off any remaining soap. You may need to repeat this step several times until the tie has been completely cleaned of all suds. After rinsing, hang the tie up to dry, avoiding direct sunlight.

Step 4: Head to the Dry Cleaners

If the stain persists after you’ve tried the steps above, it’s time to head to dry cleaners. The pros will be able to determine proper cleaning methods so you can get your tie back to its former glory.
