For fresh stains, gently rub liquid detergent into the stained area of the fabric and rinse it away with clear water. If the stain is particularly stubborn, let the detergent sit for a while before rinsing with abundant water.
For especially stubborn stains, use a solution of one part vinegar to two parts water and soak overnight. Afterward, rinse it off and let fabric air dry.
Synthetic fabrics such as nylon and polyester should not be bleached, so it’s best to take them to a dry cleaner. Check manufacturer’s instructions before doing this.
If you want an easier way to clean your camping gear, there are many pre-wash stain removers on the market. Follow the instructions on the label for proper application.
Once you’ve removed the stain, it’s recommended to wash the whole item in the washing machine according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This will help to make sure that no trace of the stain remains.
Finally, for any remaining stains, try to sun out the items. Leave them out in direct sunlight for at least an hour or two and then rewash.
