The best way to tackle suntan lotion stains is to act quickly. Before attempting to clean stain, make sure to follow any instructions on the sweater's care label first.
First spray the stained area of the sweater with a stain remover spray and let it soak for 5 minutes. Once the time is up, use a damp cloth or sponge to rub the stain in a circular motion. When the stain appears to have lifted, take the sweater outside and rinse it with cold water. Allow sweater to dry before repeating the process if necessary.
Mix equal parts of a mild detergent and bleach in a large bowl. Submerge stained area of sweater in the mixture and leave it to soak for 15 minutes or longer. Take the sweater out and rinse with cold water. Then, wash the sweater in washing machine on a normal cycle. Be sure to follow washing instructions on the care label.
Create a paste with equal parts of baking soda and lemon juice. Apply the paste directly to stain and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. After that, take a damp cloth and gently rub the paste into the stained area. Rinse sweater with cold water and then wash in the washing machine according to the care label.
