Directions

  1. It's best to take care of the stain as soon as possible. Begin by rinsing the stain under cool water.
  2. If the stain persists, mix one teaspoon of liquid dish soap and one teaspoon of white vinegar. Let this mixture stand for two minutes before applying it to the stain.
  3. Gently rub affected area with a small amount of the dishwashing liquid and white vinegar mixture. Rinse the garment thoroughly.
  4. If stain still won't budge, mix one part Borax and three parts hot water. Rub this mixture into the stained area.
  5. Rinse the sweater under cool water for several minutes.
  6. For tougher stains, repeat the process of mixing one part Borax and three parts warm water and rubbing this mixture into the stained area.
  7. Finally, rinse the garment thoroughly and pat dry with a clean rag.

Dry-Cleaning Alternative

If stain persists after taking these steps, the best option is to have the garment dry-cleaned.
