The first step is to immediately rinse the area with cold water. This will help to break up the oils of the suntan lotion, making it easier to remove later. You should not rub or scrub the stain as this could make it worse.

After you’ve rinsed the affected area, prepare a mixture of one part white vinegar and two parts lukewarm water. Put the mixture into a bowl and let your stockings soak for about 15 minutes. This helps to further break down the suntan lotion and prepare the fabric for treatment.

Next, apply an enzyme-based pre-treatment to the stain. Enzyme-based products are specially formulated to tackle stains from food, grease, and oil products. If you don’t have an enzyme-based pre-treatment, you can also use liquid dish detergent. Let it soak for up to five minutes.

Once the pre-treatment is finished, you can then wash the stockings normally either in the washing machine or by hand. Be sure to check the stockings before you put them in the dryer. If the stain is still visible, repeat the above steps before drying.

If the stain persists after washing, you can also use rubbing alcohol or an aerosol hairspray to help remove it. Simply spray the area and let it sit for a few minutes. Then use a cloth to dab gently at stain. This should help to lift the stain from fabric.
