Silk tussah is an impressive fabric with its flexible fibers that carry vivid colors and subtle sheen. It's often used in apparel and accessories, which means it's often exposed to different elements, such as suntan lotion.
But don't worry—there's a way to remove it and restore your silk tussah item back to its former glory.
The key to removing suntan lotion from silk tussah is to act quickly and minimize the absorption of the product. After the stain is noticed, gently blot the area with a cool, damp cloth.
Mix together a solution made from 1 teaspoon each of liquid dish soap, white vinegar, and water. Dip a clean cloth into the mixture, gently wring it out, then use it to blot the stained area.
Once you've blotted the solution onto the silk tussah item, take a clean damp cloth and rinse the area. Do not rub, instead, gently blot the excess liquid until it is no longer noticeable.
Allow the item to air dry on a flat surface away from direct sunlight.
If the stain is still visible after steps one through three, it may be necessary to clean silk tussah item from the inside out. Place a towel over a flat surface and carefully turn the item inside out. Lay it on towel and repeat steps one and two to the inside of the item. Once complete, item can be turned back in place and laid on the towel to air dry.
By following these four steps, you can remove suntan lotion from silk tussah and restore it to its former beauty.
