How to Clean Suntan Lotion Stains From Silk Dupioni

  1. Gently scrape any excess suntan lotion off the fabric with a blunt knife or spoon.
  2. Mix a solution of gentle hand soap and lukewarm water.
  3. Gently dab the stain with the soapy water solution.
  4. Rinse the area with cold water and allow the fabric to air dry.
  5. If the stain remains, mix a solution of 1 teaspoon of colorless dishwashing detergent, 1 quart of cool water, and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar.
  6. Dab stain with the solution and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.
  7. Rinse the area with cool water and lay the fabric flat to dry.

Helpful Tips

  • Always test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric first before applying it directly to stain.
  • Never use hot water to rinse silk dupioni, as this may lead to excessive shrinkage and can damage the fabric.
  • Always allow fabric to air dry flat and out of direct sunlight.
