Before you start cleaning your silk crepe de chine, always look for the manufacturer’s design and care label first. Every fabric is different, so in order to make sure you’re using the correct procedures, it’s important to look up the correct washing instructions.
The next step is to act quickly and try to remove stain as soon as possible. If you don’t, it might set into the fabric and become much harder to remove. Gently blot the stain with a damp soft cloth and use a stain remover powder that contains enzymes to help break down the oils in the suntan lotion.
Mix a small amount of dishwashing liquid with water and apply the solution directly to the stain. Use a soft cloth to gently massage the fabric and the cleaning solution. Keep doing this until the stain starts to fade. Do not scrub!
In some cases, a pre-treatment solution might be necessary to completely remove the stain. Make a mixture of vinegar and water in equal parts and apply it to the stain. Let it sit for about five minutes and then gently massage solution into the fabric. You can also use hydrogen peroxide or baking soda for tougher stains.
After you’ve treated the stain, rinse off solution and any remaining stain with cold water. Be sure to do this gently as silk is a delicate fabric and can easily be damaged. Finally, lay the garment out flat to air dry. Do not hang it up, as this will stretch out the fabric.
