First, remove any excess suntan lotion from stained area. To do this, use a paper towel or another absorbent material to blot the stain. Avoid rubbing the stain as this will only spread the residue further on the fabric.
Once excess lotion is removed, use a pre-treatment solution or detergent on the stain. Spray or pour a bit of product onto the affected area, and allow it to sit for a few minutes. This will help break down the oily residue left behind by suntan lotion.
After pre-treating the stain, launder the garment as usual. To be extra sure the stain is completely eliminated, use a cold water cycle and the hottest temperature recommended for the fabric. Be sure to use a detergent specifically designed for delicate fabrics on colored shorts to prevent fading.
When item is finished washing, prevent shrinking and other damage by air drying it. You can hang it up or lay it out flat to ensure it retains its original shape.
It's not hard to get rid of those pesky suntan lotion stains. With a few simple steps, you can have your shorts looking brand new again! Just remember to take care when pre-treating, washing, and drying to keep them looking their best.
