Suntan lotion is resistant to many regular washing methods and requires special attention to fully remove the stain. There are a few key steps you can take to make sure your shift dress is free of suntan lotion spots:
Mix together a solution of laundry detergent and white vinegar. Make sure the detergent is specifically designed for colored fabrics. Apply this concoction directly to the stained area and let it sit for about 15 minutes. This will help break down the oils from the suntan lotion and make it easier to remove.
Fill a bucket or sink with hot water and add 1/4 cup of detergent. Submerge dress in the solution and let it soak for 30 minutes. This will help the suntan lotion to completely dissolve in the water. After the 30 minutes are up, rinse the dress in cold water.
Place the dress in the washing machine alongside other items and set the temperature to the lowest setting possible. Use a mild, color-safe detergent and cold water to wash the dress, making sure to avoid using bleach or fabric softener. Once the cycle has finished, hang dry the dress to prevent any fading.
If stain still remains after following all the above steps, consider using a specialized stain remover stick. These sticks are specifically designed for removing tough stains and can be used on fabrics that cannot be treated with bleach. Follow the instructions on packaging and then launder dress as normal.
With the right approach, you can get those pesky suntan lotion stains out of your shift dress! Just remember to use mild detergents, treat the stain with a mixture of detergent and vinegar, and consider using a specialized stain remover stick if needed.
