Using Dish Soap

Dish soap is a popular and relatively quick fix for suntan lotion stains. First, you should soak stained area in warm water for about 15-20 minutes. This will help soften any hardened sections of the stain. Then, using a clean cloth, work some mild dish soap or liquid laundry detergent into the stain gently.

Once the soap has been worked into the fabric, use a soft-bristled brush to carefully scrub affected area. Avoid using too much pressure, as this could further damage the fabric. After the scrubbing is complete, rinse the fabric with cold water.

Bleach for White Scrubs

If scrubs are white, you may need to take a more aggressive approach to cleaning the stain. Start by mixing one part bleach and four parts water in a bowl. Using a clean cloth, apply mixture directly on the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

Once the time is up, use a soft-bristled brush to scrub the affected area. After scrubbing, rinse the area with cold water. If the stain persists, repeat the process until stain is gone.

Wash as Usual

Once the scrub is free of the suntan lotion stain, you can wash it as you normally would. You may want to consider adding some extra detergent to the wash cycle for good measure. Once the wash cycle is complete, hang your scrub to dry.

Prevention Tips

The best way to prevent suntan lotion stains from forming on your scrubs is to apply the lotion before putting clothing on. Make sure to rub the lotion into your skin thoroughly, so that no excess product remains on garment. Additionally, if you are wearing a swimsuit or other item of clothing that could be prone to suntan lotion stains, rinse the clothing off shortly after coming out of the water. This will help reduce the amount of stain-causing residue left on fabric.
