Suntan lotion can easily stain delicate fabrics like Rosepoint lace, leaving unsightly spots on the fabric. Don’t panic though! There are some easy steps you can take to get rid of these stains and restore your lace back to its original beauty.
Take a damp cloth and dab at the stained area. This will help to absorb some of the oil from the suntan lotion. Do not rub the stain as this could spread the stain further and damage the lace.
Once you’ve dabbed away as much of the oil as possible, it’s time to apply ammonia to the stained area. Ammonia is a great natural cleaner that can help to dissolve oils and break down the stain. Mix 1 tablespoon of ammonia with 2 cups of water and dip your cloth into the solution. Gently dab stained area and then rinse off the area with cool, clean water.
After the ammonia treatment, it’s time to use a commercial stain remover. Be sure to check the label on the product to ensure that it’s compatible with Rosepoint lace. Apply a small amount of the stain remover directly onto the stained area and let sit for 5 minutes. Then use a clean cloth and gently rub the area in a circular motion. Rinse the area with cool, clean water and repeat if necessary.
Now that you’ve removed the stain, it’s time to wash entire piece of lace to help remove any residue left behind. Depending on the type of lace, you can either hand wash or machine wash the fabric in warm or cold water. Once the washing is complete, let the lace dry naturally. Do not put the lace in dryer as heat could cause stain to set further.
Following these simple steps can help keep your Rosepoint lace looking its best. With proper cleaning and care, your lace can stay beautiful for years to come.
