The first step to ridding rayon of suntan lotion stains is to soak them in cold water as soon as possible. Simply fill sink with lukewarm water and let the fabric soak for about 30 minutes. This will help to loosen the stain and make it easier to remove. Make sure not to use hot or boiling water, as this could cause the rayon to shrink or discolor.
Once the fabric has been soaked, take a few minutes to pre-treat the area. Start by cleaning any excess residue off the fabric with a damp cloth. Then, apply a small amount of laundry detergent directly to the stain, rub it in gently, and let it soak for another 10 minutes before washing.
Put the fabric in the washing machine with a regular load of laundry, using gentle cycle and cold water. If the fabric is very soiled or stain remains, you can try adding a bleach alternative or color-safe stain remover to the wash. After the cycle is complete, check for any remaining stain and repeat the steps if necessary.
Finally, run fabric through the dryer on the low heat setting. Or, if possible, hang the fabric to air-dry. This will help to prevent shrinking or discoloration of the fabric.
