Cleaning Suntan Lotion Stains from Peau de Soie – A Step-by-Step Guide
If you have Peau de Soie fabric and have accidentally spilled suntan lotion on it, all may not be lost! There are several methods to try that may help you safely remove the stain without damaging your fabric.

Before starting any of these cleaning methods, you should test out a small amount of the cleaner on an inconspicuous corner of your fabric. This will ensure that you won’t damage delicate material.
Q-Tip and Dishwashing Liquid
This is one of the least abrasive methods for removing suntan lotion stains. All you need is a few Q-Tips and some liquid dish soap.
- Mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid with water in a cup.
- Dip the Q-Tip in the mixture and gently dab at stain.
- Continue this until you’ve saturated the entire area.
- Let mixture sit for 5-10 minutes.
- Using a damp cloth, blot at the area and rinse with clean water.
- Allow the area to dry completely.
Vinegar and Water
Vinegar is a great natural cleaning agent and can be used on a wide variety of fabrics. To clean a suntan lotion stain with vinegar and water, you’ll need:
- 1 part white vinegar
- 1 part warm water
- A cloth or sponge
- Mix the vinegar and warm water together in a bowl.
- Dip the cloth or sponge in the mixture and gently dab at the stain.
- Continue to dab until the stain has been saturated.
- Let mixture sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse the area with clean water.
- Pat dry with a clean cloth.
Laundry Detergent
If you’d like to try a harsher method of cleaning, laundry detergent may be your best bet. You’ll need:
- Liquid laundry detergent
- Water
- An old toothbrush
- Mix laundry detergent with a small amount of water in a bowl.
- Using the old toothbrush, scrub gently at the stain.
- Continue scrubbing until stain has been saturated.
- Let the mixture sit for 15-20 minutes.
- Rinse with clean water.
- Allow the area to dry completely.
