Before you start, gather the supplies needed to clean the stain. You will need a bucket, a washcloth, a non-bleach detergent, white vinegar and baking soda. If available, use a brush with stiff bristles.
If stain is still fresh, use a damp cloth to blot it. Do not rub the stain as this can cause the oil from the suntan lotion to spread. If the stain has dried, use a brush to carefully loosen it. Once stain has been loosened, vacuum it up.
Fill the bucket with warm water and 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Place the stain-ridden shirt in bucket and allow it to soak for 10-15 minutes. This will help to further lift the stain.
After pre-soak, fill the sink or laundry basin with warm water and a small amount of non-bleach detergent. Allow the shirt to soak for a few minutes and then gently rub stain with a washcloth. Do not scrub shirt as this may damage the fabric.
Once stain is removed, place the shirt in sink or tub and rinse it with cold water. Take care not to wring or twist the shirt, as this can cause it to shrink or misshape.
The best way to dry an Oxford shirt is to hang it on a clothesline. However, if that is not an option, you can lay the shirt flat on a towel and press down on it lightly. Do not use a clothes dryer as this may cause shirt to shrink.
