1. Start with a Soak

Fill a sink or large bowl with cold water and add a squirt of liquid dishwashing detergent. Submerge the garment in the soapy water and let it soak for at least 15 minutes. Don't use hot water as this could cause the stain to set in and become permanent.

2. Use Cream of Tartar

Cream of tartar has been known to help lift out oil-based stains, which makes it perfect for tackling suntan lotion stains. Make a paste with 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar mixed with 1 teaspoon of water, then rub the mixture over the stained area. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing off with cool water.

3. Give It a Scrub

Using an old toothbrush lightly dipped in a solution of equal parts white vinegar and cool water, gently scrub away at the stain until you see it start to lift. Rinse off with cool water afterwards.

4. Wash as Usual

Once the stain is gone, wash the item in the washing machine using the normal setting. To avoid any chance of the stain setting in permanently, hang your outerwear to dry instead of using a dryer.
